Co-Founder/Partner
Carl Johnson has over thirty years of broad experience in the oil
& gas industry in all aspects of engineering & operations.
With VIKING he is currently focused on HPHT well design including
tubular design, corrosive environment assessment, annular pressure
buildup analysis and mitigation and procurement solutions. He has
assisted numerous operators in the preparation of training and design
documents.
After earning his Petroleum Engineering degree from Marietta College
in Ohio, Carl worked for both major and independent operators. Prior to founding
VIKING Engineering, he spent fifteen years with Sonat Exploration Co., where he
directed drilling programs throughout the U.S. and managed both business unit
and corporate engineering and corporate procurement efforts. He has worked
extensively in most major U.S. oil basins, including the harsher environments of
the Gulf of Mexico and South Texas.
In 2001, Carl co-founded VIKING Engineering, L.C. with Bob Moe.
Carl has co-authored several corporate design manuals and articles
for publications.
Co-Founder/Partner
For most of his career, Bob Moe has been in pivotal major project
planning, scheduling, and coordinating assignments with major operators.
His seventeen years of experience with a major petroleum producer
includes quality assurance expertise in the manufacture of equipment
for high pressure and sour gas production, drilling and subsurface
operations. Bob's current work encompasses training and HPHT casing
design, connections, and material selection for deep, high pressure,
sour wells.
Bob earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from South
Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1975.
He spent seventeen years with Exxon Company, USA, where he led the
Mobile Bay Completions Technology Quality Assurance Team. Bob left
Exxon to join Oil Technology Services as Vice President - Engineering.
While with OTS, Bob managed the drilling, completions, and production
of technically complex wells. Bob co-founded VIKING Engineering,
L.C. in 2001.
Bob has authored several design manuals and technical articles
for industry publications. He is
a registered professional engineer.
Consultant
Rich Miller, with eleven years of oilfield consulting experience,
is currently focused on deepwater casing programs for high profile
projects and annular pressure buildup. His work with a large oilfield
consulting firm required stress analysis for critical wells worldwide.
He also has a familiarity with financial and quantitative analysis.
Rich attended Rice University, where he earned a Bachelor's of
Science, a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA.
Recently, Rich co-authored the BP Advanced Well Design Assurance
manual. He was, also, part of a six person team that was awarded
the 2002 BP Helios Innovation Award
for pioneering work in Deepwater/Subsea Well Design Integrity Development.

Consultant
Peter Erpelding specializes in mechanical and thermal analysis of
drilling and completion equipment and operations. He handles a large
amount of VIKING's training programs in casing and tubing design and
relevant software applications. He is also heavily involved in engineering
projects involving deep water, high pressure, high temperature, and
highly corrosive reservoirs.
Peter attended San Diego State University where he was a top Mechanical
Engineering graduate. Post graduation, Peter embarked on a Naval
career. While in the Navy, Peter taught officer and enlisted personnel
the principles of Nuclear Engineering and Reactor Operation at the
Navy Nuclear Power School. He also taught Engineering Thermodynamics and
Heat Transfer at the United States Naval Academy and Heat Transfer at
John's Hopkins University.
Recently, Peter worked with Schlumberger as a Technical Specialist.
He was primarily responsible for training internal and external
clients to use the Drilling Office software. In addition, he was
responsible for technical support and engineering development of
the TDAS and WEST software products. Peter, also, conducted casing/tubing
design courses as well as assisting IPM, D&M, and WCP with special
tubular design projects that require additional engineering analysis.
Thanks to Peter's extensive teaching experience, he is an important
member of VIKING training staff. In February of 2002, Peter was
an invaluable asset to VIKING's Tubular Design Training School.

Consultant
John Greenip has been providing technical analysis and support for a variety of
downhole equipment and operations since entering the industry in 1967. More recent
projects include HPHT wells, horizontal and extended reach wells, geothermal and
steam injection wells, and deep-water applications.
John's initial assignments as a production engineer for a major operator
included completion, artificial lift, and workover projects. After spending 4
years with a pumping services company working in sand control and stimulation, he
went to work for Hydril in their OCTG applications group. During 27 years at
Hydril, his projects included string design, in-house and operator training sessions,
product-line planning, and failure analysis.
John graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering in 1966. He is a member of SPE and ASME.
Consultant
John McDowell has been in the oil industry since 1982. He spent
approximately five years with Schlumberger in electric lines
services and has specialized in casing and tubing design for the
past nine years. McDowell graduated from Belfast University with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980.
His is fluent in Schlumberger's TDAS stress analysis and WEST
thermal simulation models. He has written a series of in-house
mathematical models for multi-chamber annulus pressure build-up
prediction, kick tolerance, a multi-string assembly and service
mathematical model, pipe recovery and stuck point prediction with
friction, a vector approach to tubular drag prediction, as well as
others.
McDowell is currently based in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Consultant
